The Used
It was like mid-2000 when we got to encounter this band. It was a period in time when people were already tired of Limp Bizkit and were looking for something that’s more meaningful. Something with substance, something that got hold of your true emotions, not hiding behind some red cap and singing about getting angry then getting laid, suddenly all that apathetic crap just went out of the window.
Along with Taking Back Sunday and Thursday, The Used is a band from Utah that captured the essence of raw emotion and hardwork. I mean, these guys worked their asses off, their first producer was John Feldman of Goldfinger and their first album catapulted them to cult status. Their blend of bittersweet melodies and almost garage-like guitar-riffing and the screams were perfect for all they’re worth. After a whole slew of albums, the band continues to churn out anthems for everyone. There’s something awesome about a band who can write something that’s brewing with power and anger without sacrificing the melodic dare we say pop elements? They really are legends in our book.
They’ll be coming to Manila this March 8 for the Smash Project at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. And you bet we’ll be there to scream our lungs off!
