Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir
The heavy metal lifestyle is one that usually takes its toll on the hardest of musicians. Those who fail to live by the code just decide to drop like flies and fall into oblivion, but there is Dave Mustaine- defacto CEO for Megadeth, over-all genius and self-admitted control freak. He was a part of the genesis of thrash metal for Metallica’s early years and for the birth of the mighty Megadeth. Upon reading this book, I’ve learned a lot from this heavy metal warrior’s personality, his choice of words were never sugar coated and he chose to speak the truth along with his rather twisted sense of humor. The book also gives us an insight on how he actually got kicked out of Metallica and how he lived and dealt with it. Even with Megadeth’s success, the dude just couldn’t let go of the fact that he’s always second to Metallica’s shadow. He went in and out of rehab and he managed to bring his family along for the ride, his youthful years as reckless and as fast-paced as the music he’s known for. Some photos show his love for denim and Air Jordan high-tops- one fashion necessity in the crazy world of heavy metal. Mustaine is one bad seed and he survived to give us an honest to goodness story behind the rockstar, and his eventual discovery of Christianity- that latter occurence not turning his music into a slab of creampie. He still is as furious as ever. Pick up this book. Recommended!
