Streetwear is a classification of clothing which provides an alternative to your usual mom n’ pop “safe” brands that are usually available at your typical retail shops. The streetwear movement was a reaction of sorts by individuals who wanted something different. This longing for deviation resulted in a new breed of artists who created shirts applying the D.I.Y. (Do It Yourself) Punk ethic to their very own brands. They all were different in terms of look and feel but were directly influenced by skateboarding and independent music icons. Fast forward to 2011, the quality has gradually improved and its number of faithful followers has immensely increased. From your usual 20-year olds to celebrities, The streetwear movement has definitely flourished and is now considered a “legit” clothing category. Just goes to show that success comes with sincerity and passion, that doing what you actually love can result to something mind blowing and groundbreaking.
